  • When organizing all of your scholarship applications and documents, organize them by due date to help ensure that you get your applications mailed off in time.
  • Keep copies of everything in case you need to reference them later.
  • Don’t get discouraged! The work you put into finding and applying for scholarships can definitely pay off in the end!

FAFSA Students seeking financial aid will need to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.  Schools and states have their own deadlines. Contact them for exact deadline dates.  To complete the FAFSA you will need the following items:   Social Security Number, driver’s license, income tax returns, bank statements, and investment records.

Miss Hillsboro Scholarship Pageant  The Hillsboro Independence Day Committee is seeking contestants for the Miss Hillsboro Scholarship Pageant to be held Sunday July 1st at 6:30 p.m.  The pageant is open to all girls who are currently a junior or senior in the Hillsboro School district.  The new Queen will receive a Crown, Scepter, Trophy, Sash, Pin, Gift, Contestant Shirt & a $1000.00 Scholarship.  The deadline to enter is May 15th.  Contact Michelle Gardner at 556-6835 or email  misshillsboropageant@gmail.com for paperwork or for more information.

The Balanced Man Scholarship (SIUE)  To celebrate your choice of attending SIUE, the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon, are offering the Balanced Man Scholarship of $1000 to a student at SIUE.  There is no obligation to join SigEp to be eligible for this scholarship.  Applications are due June 1, 2012.

The Gateways to Opportunity Scholarship Program is an individual-based scholarship opportunity for practitioners working in Early Care and Education (ECE) or school-age care. Goals of the program include:  1) Enabling practitioners to continue education in ECE and to earn degrees and/or credentials. 2) Promoting increased earning ability through increased education.  3) Improving the quality and consistency of care received by children in licensed child care or school-age care settings.

The Gateways Scholarship Program will pay a percentage of the cost of tuition and fees based on an eligible participant’s child care position income. Scholarships are awarded dependent upon availability of funding. For more information on the Gateways Scholarship Program refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Best Buy Scholarship Program  This scholarship is for any student (9 – 12) who have solid grades and are involved in community service.  Visit Best Buy’s website to learn more about this scholarship and to view a list of 2011 scholarship recipients.

Other sources of Aid:

Golden Apple Scholars Program – The purpose of the Golden Apple Scholars program is to recruit talented high school students who want to be teachers.  Scholars agree to teach for five years in an Illinois school of need.  In addition to the scholarship loan of $2500.00 per year for four years, scholars attend four residential summer institutes.  The total financial assistance package is $18,000.  Nomination brochures are available in the guidance office.  Beginning in April of student’s junior year and continuing through November of their senior year, any Illinois student who is interested in a teaching career is eligible for the Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Program.  Website is www. goldenapple.org Federal Direct Loans Resources by State Scholarships for students who are completing a degree at a accredited school.
